What the extension stores, why it needs access to video pages, and how Chrome Sync handles your preferences.

Extension data

Flow Control stores site hostnames together with the enabled setting, playback speed, and holding speed in Chrome’s extension sync storage. These settings let it restore your preferred pace for each site. It does not store video titles, full browsing history, or video content.

The extension code contains no analytics, advertising trackers, or requests to a developer-run data server. It does not send your saved preferences to the developer.

Chrome Sync

The extension uses chrome.storage.sync, not only local storage. If you enable Chrome Sync, Chrome may sync site names and preferences between your browsers through Google’s infrastructure. When sync is disabled, these preferences remain local to the browser. Chrome’s own account and sync settings govern this behavior.

Why it requests website access

Flow Control runs on video pages and embedded frames to locate HTML5 video elements, change their playback rate, and listen for speed shortcuts. Broad site access enables this on multiple websites. The active-tab permission lets the popup identify the current site, and the storage permission saves its settings.

You can restrict site access, disable the extension on a site, or remove it through your browser’s extension settings. Restricting access can prevent automatic playback control. Reset to default restores the current site’s configuration; it is not an erase-all-settings control. Removing the extension clears its browser storage; manage synced data through Chrome’s sync settings as well.

Website and store visits

The website is hosted on Vercel. The homepage and donation page load fonts from Google Fonts and icons from jsDelivr; those providers receive ordinary web requests. The website contains no added analytics script or tracking cookie. Hosting providers may process standard request information to deliver and protect their services.

Install links include fixed campaign labels identifying the page or button that sent you to the Chrome Web Store. They contain no personal identifier or browsing history. Google may provide the developer with aggregate store traffic and installation reports. Those reports are separate from extension activity.

External links to GitHub, Google, and donation providers follow those services’ privacy practices. If you contact support, the developer receives the information you choose to send.
