Get started with Flow Control

Install the extension, choose your first speed, and solve common playback and keyboard issues.

Install on your desktop browser

Open the official Chrome Web Store listing and choose Add to Chrome. Review the permission prompt and confirm installation.
Open your browser’s extensions menu and pin Flow Control for quick access.
Reload any video tabs that were already open.
Start a recorded video, open Flow Control, and set a comfortable speed such as 1.25x.

Flow Control is made for desktop Chrome and compatible Chromium browsers, including Edge, Brave, and Opera. Installation steps can vary by browser. Mobile Chrome does not provide the desktop Chrome extension installation flow.

Three controls to learn

Playback Speed: slider from 0.25x to 4x, with custom input up to 8x.
Holding Speed: the rate used while you hold '. Releasing returns to your saved pace.
Site toggle: enables or disables Flow Control for the current site. To restore native player controls if they still conflict, disable the extension in your browser’s settings and reload.

The popup opens, but the video does not change

Reload the tab after installation or an update. Make sure a video is loaded, the extension is enabled, and site access is permitted in your browser’s extension settings. Browser settings pages and the Chrome Web Store do not allow ordinary extension content scripts.

Course platforms sometimes embed players from a different domain. Click into the embedded video and check whether its source domain also has access. Live streams, protected players, and some custom player implementations may not support the requested rate.

The speed keeps changing back

Use one speed controller at a time. Disable other speed extensions and reload. Some players force their own rate; report the affected public page if Flow Control cannot retain your setting. To stop Flow Control completely on a page, restrict its site access or disable the extension in your browser, then reload.

The keyboard shortcuts do not work

Click outside search boxes, comments, and other editable fields. Try the popup to distinguish a keyboard conflict from a playback problem. The fixed shortcuts are [, ], and hold '; keyboard layouts may differ.

Get help or suggest an improvement

Report an issue on GitHub or email the developer. Include your extension version, browser version, expected behavior, and steps to reproduce. Do not include passwords or private video links.
