How to remember video speed for each website

Save a different playback speed for tutorials, lectures, and other video sites instead of adjusting the player every time.

One preference per site

A programming tutorial and a recorded lecture may call for different speeds. Flow Control saves an enabled setting, playback speed, and holding speed for each hostname. Set one site to 1.5x and another to 1.25x; those choices remain separate.

The preference belongs to the site, not an individual video, playlist, or channel. Different subdomains can have different settings. Embedded players may run under a different hostname from the surrounding course page.

Save your pace

Install Flow Control and reload the video page.
Open the popup while viewing the site you want to configure.
Choose a playback rate with the slider or Custom Speed field.
Start another video or reload the page. Flow Control reapplies the saved preference.
Repeat on another site to choose its own pace.

Keep a temporary boost separate

Set your normal rate to 1.5x and Holding Speed to 3x. Hold ' to move through a familiar part, then release it to return to 1.5x. You do not have to replace your normal preference each time you want a short burst of speed.

Do settings follow me to another computer?

Flow Control uses Chrome’s extension sync storage. If Chrome Sync is enabled for extensions, Chrome may sync these preferences between your signed-in browsers. Without sync, preferences stay in that browser. There is no separate Flow Control account. See what is stored.

When a preference does not apply

Reload tabs that were already open when you installed or updated the extension.
Check the enabled toggle and the browser’s site-access setting.
Check whether the player is embedded from another domain.
Try a regular recorded HTML5 video. Live streams and restricted players can behave differently.
Disable competing speed controllers and reload.

Flow Control does not currently offer per-channel rules or rules based on video duration. Its current control is a saved preference for each site.
